Well, where to start..
To say that I'm scratching my own itch is almost an understatement.
For the last 20 years I've been registering domain names. Either because I thought I had a cool idea, or because I thought the domain name was cool and surely I would think of a great idea to match!
But most of the times I didn't actually follow through. The domain name would expire after a year, or keep racking up renewal fees.
This started me thinking: why does this happen?
Partly this is expected I think. What might seem like a great idea at first, turns out to be not-so-great after a night's sleep. I'm fine with some domain names being registered on a whim and abondoned the next day.
But I got the feeling that's not the whole story. The whole story also involves me being put off by all the things I needed to take care of before I could put my idea into action.
Boring stuff, like setting DNS records, setting up email, setting up a landing page, installing analytics, setting up a mailing list. Before I was done with all of that I lost most of my initial enthusiasm already, and busyness would catch up with me.
And if I managed to get through the boring stuff, I then needed to get my tech-stack together. I must say I've gotten a lot better at that over the years, and I've got my go-to stack ready to go.
But even then: I would need to decide on a css framework, setup hosting, setup a payment provider if I was going to sell anything, etc.
Long story short: I could make this easier and, even more important, more fun for myself!
That's when I decided to build kickstart·dev
I sincerely hope that this will make sideprojects easier to get into and more fun to start, for me, and for others
